Meet Valentino

ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

Hi, I’m Valentino!
Life didn’t start easy for me — I was found tied to a tree for ten days with no food, water, or shelter. But I’m learning what love feels like now, and I’m ready for my next chapter. I can be a little shy at first, but once I get to know you, I’m all about cuddles, playtime, and snacks (I’m very food-motivated, thank you very much).

I’d do best with someone patient who’ll take things slow and let me warm up at my own pace. Once I trust you, I’m loyal, goofy, and love to show off how smart I am. I get along well with friendly, easygoing dogs but prefer a cat-free home — and since I can get nervous with new people, an adult-only home would be perfect for me.

I’m eligible for FOHA’s Foster Forward Program, which helps long-stay animals like me experience home life and increases my chances of adoption.

I’m so excited to meet my potential new family! To make sure we have the best first impression, I’d feel most comfortable meeting new people with one of my friends (a FOHA staff or volunteer) by my side. The best way to set up a successful meet-and-greet is by submitting an application first. Thanks for considering me!

HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
I get along well with some dogs, particularly calm or submissive ones. I love to play rough and wrestle, but I don’t like being picked on or crowded. I’d likely do best being introduced to one dog at a time and would prefer to be the first dog in the home.

HOW AM I WITH CATS:
No cats, please! I’ve lived in a foster home with cats before and it wasn’t a good fit.

HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
Because I’m shy and unsure around new people, I’d probably be best in a home with older children.

MY TRAINING:
I’m working on learning commands like “sit”, especially when treats are involved! I’ve made great progress in my foster home and respond well to positive reinforcement.

This dog is part of FOHA’s Diamond Dog Program, which means they receive extra training support and guidance to help them succeed in a home. To learn more about the Diamond Dog Program, click here and scroll down!

MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
I’ve done well with house manners in my foster home. With continued structure and encouragement, I’ll settle into a routine with ease.

THINGS I LIKE:

Playing fetch, earning treats, cuddles and affection from my trusted friends, and walks in quiet areas!

THINGS I STRUGGLE WITH:

Fast introductions – I need time to feel safe and warm up to new people, crowded or chaotic environments – a calm home is best for me, and cats – definitely not my thing
