If you are planning a mid-year decluttering project, you might be wondering exactly what to donate to The Treasure Hound. July has a way of making people look around their homes and rethink their space. Between summer moves, renovations, and the general urge to reset before fall, mid-year is one of the most natural times to sort through your belongings.
Our premier thrift store in Chantilly VA is the perfect place for those items. Consequently, your gently used kitchenware or that old lamp can do something truly wonderful on its way out the door.
What to Donate to The Treasure Hound: Items We Love to Receive
The items that move fastest in our store raise the most money for FOHA. Therefore, we prefer things that are clean, functional, and ready for a new owner. This includes quality home goods, kitchenware, serving pieces, lamps, framed artwork, and mirrors.
For fashion, we accept clean seasonal clothing, shoes, handbags, and jewelry in wearable condition. Additionally, we now welcome book donations with open arms! Gently used books are a wonderful addition to our shelves. They give readers across Northern Virginia a sustainable way to shop while supporting our mission.
Pet supplies are also accepted. However, we do have one important rule. They must be brand new, unused, clean, and still in their original packaging with tags attached. This ensures they are safe and sanitary for the shoppers who take them home.
What Does Not Work for Our Shop
We want to be completely straightforward about what we cannot accept. Specifically, items that are not in resale-ready condition do not sit on our shelves. Instead, they take up valuable space and time that could go toward sellable goods. We cannot accept:
- Broken, heavily damaged, or stained furniture
- Clothing that is stained, torn, or heavily worn
- Expired or recalled household items
- Used pet supplies without their original tags
- Any item that is not thoroughly clean and ready for immediate resale
This policy is not about being overly picky. Rather, it is about ensuring every donation has the best possible chance of raising money for FOHA’s shelter pets.
A Little Prep Goes a Long Way
A tiny amount of preparation makes a huge difference in how quickly we can process your items. Wiping down household goods, washing clothing, and checking that electronics work are simple steps that help our team immensely. Consequently, the proceeds reach the animals much sooner.
Why Your Community Support Matters
When you drop off a box of items, you are not just clearing space in your home. Indeed, you are directly contributing to veterinary care for animals in recovery, daily shelter operations, and enrichment for dogs and cats awaiting adoption. For FOHA’s rescues, this steady community support is what makes everything else possible.
