🌟 Meet Mongoose!

🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

Mongoose has traveled a long way to get to FOHA, and not just geographically. This sweet boy came to us from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where he was found in the La Vista area after being hit by a car. He received the medical care he needed, recovered, and eventually packed his very own passport for a journey to Virginia and a chance at finding his family. 🌎✈️

His previous caregivers described Mongoose as a polite, well-behaved, sweet, calm, and incredibly affectionate boy. He enjoys walks, sunbathing, and, perhaps most importantly—spending time with his humans.

We’re seeing that same gentle personality at FOHA. Mongoose is easy on leash, walks at a comfortable pace, and enjoys affection. He can be a little reserved when he first meets someone and may become unsure around quick movements or unfamiliar people. Give him a chance to get comfortable, though, and you’ll start seeing more and more of the real Mongoose.

During some time hanging out in a staff office, he happily soaked up lots of petting. And then, after taking care of business outside one day, this calm, dignified gentleman suddenly broke out the post-poop zoomies. 😂

Apparently there’s a silly boy hiding underneath that reserved exterior, and we can’t wait to see more of him as he settles in!

🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:

My previous caregivers report that I’ve gotten along well with other dogs! My friends at FOHA will continue learning more about my individual preferences and play style while I’m here.

🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:

My previous caregivers report that I’ve done well with cats! FOHA will continue assessing me and can help determine whether I may be a good match for the cats in your household.

👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:

My previous caregivers report that I’ve done well with children. Because I can initially be reserved and occasionally get spooked by quick movements, my friends at FOHA can help determine whether I’ll be comfortable with the children in your particular family.

🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:

I’m a polite, well-behaved boy who already has some important companion-dog skills under my belt.

I’m comfortable walking on leash and have been easy to handle and confident on my walks at FOHA. My friends here are still learning which specific commands I know.

🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:

I’m crate trained! ⭐

My FOHA friends also think I may be housebroken based on what they’ve observed so far, but they’re continuing to learn about my bathroom habits as I settle in.

💖 THINGS I LIKE:

Sunbathing • Going for walks • Getting lots of pets • Spending time with my humans • Quiet companionship • Exploring • Relaxing with people I trust • And apparently, celebrating a successful potty break with zoomies

⚠️ THINGS I’M WORKING ON:

Building confidence around unfamiliar people • Getting comfortable in a brand-new environment • Learning that quick movements don’t have to be scary • Letting my silly side come out more and more

Mongoose’s first impression may be that of a quiet, polite gentleman. But don’t assume that’s the whole story.

Spend a little time with him. Give him some pets. Take him for a comfortable walk. Let him decide you’re someone he can trust.

And eventually you may get to meet the affectionate, sunbathing, post-poop-zoomie Mongoose his friends are beginning to discover. 💛

He’s already recovered from a major injury, traveled from Mexico to Virginia, and learned to navigate a world full of new experiences. Now Mongoose is ready for something much simpler: a safe place to sunbathe, people to love, and a home where his silly side can fully come out. ☀️🏡

Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet.
