Meet Marzipan
ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Hi, I’m Marzipan – but you can call me Marzie.
I’m a very shy girl who is still learning that the world can be a safe place. New people, loud noises, and busy environments can be overwhelming for me, so I prefer quiet spaces where I can relax and take things at my own pace.
Even though I’m shy, I’m a thoughtful little observer. I like to follow my person around the house from a distance, just keeping an eye on things and making sure everything is okay. I’m not quite ready for lots of cuddles yet, but with patience and kindness I’m learning that people can be trusted.
I really enjoy the company of other dogs and feel most comfortable when I have a calm dog friend nearby. I don’t always feel playful, but sometimes I’ll grab a toy and run around the house with it when I get a burst of excitement. Having another dog around helps me feel safer and more confident.
The outside world can feel a little scary for me. Loud noises, people approaching, or cars passing by can make me nervous, so I do best in quiet environments and secure spaces where I can explore safely. A fenced yard is very important for me, as I’m a bit of an escape risk if I get frightened on leash.
I love food and treats, but I prefer to eat in my own quiet space away from people. I’m still learning my house training routine and do best when I’m kept on a consistent schedule.
What I really need most is a calm, patient home with people who understand shy dogs and are happy to let me move at my own pace. With time, kindness, and understanding, I know I’ll slowly come out of my shell and show the loving heart I have inside.
HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
I like other dogs and feel more comfortable when they are around. A calm dog companion could help me feel more secure.
HOW AM I WITH CATS:
Unknown, but I would likely do fine since I tend to avoid things that make me nervous.
HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
Very small children would likely scare me. Gentle older kids who understand shy dogs may be okay.
MY TRAINING:
I’m still learning and gaining confidence every day.
This dog is part of FOHA’s Diamond Dog Program, which means they receive extra training support and guidance to help them succeed in a home.
MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
I’m working on house training and do best with a consistent routine. I’m comfortable staying in a crate when needed.
THINGS I LIKE:
Spray cheese, peanut butter cookie treats, sniffing in the yard, being outside, toys during my playful moments, and the company of calm dogs.
THINGS I DISLIKE:
Loud noises, busy environments, too much petting, and unfamiliar people moving too quickly around me.
