🌟 Meet Kohl’s Cash!

🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

She may be petite, but Kohl’s Cash is worth a whole lot. 💸💕

This beautiful little girl traveled all the way from Mexico to FOHA, complete with her own passport. Her story started when she was found on the streets at only about four months old. She then spent approximately four months living with around 50 dogs crowded into a very small hoarding home, where resources were scarce and everyday experiences like walks, leashes, vet visits, and meeting new people weren’t part of life.

After being rescued, Kohl’s Cash—then known as Dakota—spent another four months between her rescuers and a hobby farm foster home. Of the dogs rescued from the hoarding situation, she initially showed some of the most confidence and independence.

At FOHA, we’re getting to know a sweet, gentle girl who likes to take things in before deciding she’s comfortable. New people can make her nervous, and loud noises, quick movements, barking dogs, or unfamiliar people approaching her while she’s on leash can be intimidating.

But here’s where Kohl’s Cash really starts paying dividends:

Once she trusts you, she’s incredibly sweet and cuddly. She enjoys being petted, will climb into your lap, and even gives her favorite people little kisses. 💕

One of her favorite activities at FOHA has been simply sitting in the courtyard and watching the world around her. Kohl’s Cash doesn’t need everyone she encounters to become her new best friend. She needs people who will advocate for her, let her observe, and allow relationships to develop at her pace.

Give her that—and you’ll get to discover the affectionate little dog waiting underneath.

🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:

I have extensive experience living with other dogs and have generally gotten along well with them.

Because I can be startled by dogs barking directly at me, my friends at FOHA will continue learning about my individual preferences and can help determine whether another dog may be a good match for me.

🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:

Cats and other small animals are probably not the best match for me.

While living at a hobby farm, I showed a lot of interest in the resident cats and attempted to grab both a chicken and a rabbit before my foster intervened. I did live peacefully around the resident pigs.

Because of that history, a home without cats, poultry, rabbits, or other small animals would likely be the safest choice.

👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:

My friends at FOHA are still learning how I feel about children.

Because unfamiliar people, sudden movements, and loud noises can make me nervous, they’ll help determine whether the children in your family and I are likely to be comfortable together.

🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:

I’m still building my confidence with leash walking, but I’ve already shown that I’m capable of tackling some pretty challenging environments.

Before coming to FOHA, I successfully walked along a busy road and through a shopping center, even though I could be hesitant on leash.

I also LOVE treats, which gives us a great tool for positive training! I can sometimes take them a little enthusiastically, so for now it’s best to offer treats from a flat palm or toss them for me.

🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:

I have experience sleeping comfortably in a crate overnight, and my previous foster did not observe destructive behavior or potty accidents inside.

Because that foster home had multiple dogs and frequent access to the garden, my FOHA friends will continue monitoring my housebreaking as I adjust to a different routine.

💖 THINGS I LIKE:

Treats • Sitting outside and observing • Getting pets from people I trust • Lap time • Giving little kisses • Other dogs • Quiet companionship • Exploring at my own pace • Treats (yes, they’re worth mentioning twice)

⚠️ THINGS I’M WORKING ON:

Building confidence with strangers • Getting more comfortable on leash • Staying brave around loud noises and quick movements • Learning that unfamiliar people don’t need to be scary • Practicing taking treats a little more gently

Kohl’s Cash isn’t the dog who needs to rush over and introduce herself to everyone she meets. She’s an observer. She likes to take in the situation, decide how she feels, and get to know someone on her own terms.

That’s why earning her trust feels so special.

The hesitant little dog you initially meet becomes the girl who crawls into your lap, asks for pets, cuddles close, and gives you tiny kisses.

Kohl’s Cash has already gone from the streets of Mexico, to an overcrowded house, to foster care, to a hobby farm, and finally across the border to FOHA. She’s experienced an enormous amount of change for such a petite dog.

Now she’s looking for someone who understands that the best things sometimes take a little time to cash in. 💸💛

Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet.
