Meet Jolene
ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
As Dolly Parton’s song goes, “Your beauty is beyond compare with flaming locks of auburn hair”—well, that’s me, Jolene! But don’t worry, I’m not here to steal anyone’s man; I’m just hoping to steal your heart.
I’m a five-year-old pup with soulful eyes and a hound dog nose that’s always on the trail of a good sniff. I’ve got a sweet, gentle spirit with just a hint of sass. I may be a little shy at first and get spooked by new things, but once I feel safe, I’m affectionate, curious, and very food motivated.
I went on FOHA’s “Tails to Trails” Sunday hike and did wonderfully! I was a little excited during the car ride, so it’s a good idea to buckle me in, but once we hit the trail, I showed off my great leash skills and friendly personality. I tend to get more jumpy or mouthy for treats once I’m back at the shelter, but thanks to the volunteers who have been working with me, I’ve made a lot of progress. I’m smart and eager to keep learning in a home that gives me structure and encouragement.
I’ve had some fur loss on my back that’s been treated (don’t worry—it’s not contagious!), and it hasn’t stopped me from being my charming, lovable self.
HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
I’m polite and curious around other dogs, but I mostly prefer to do my own thing. I’ve spent time with dogs like Jerry, Janis, Kita, and Kiara and enjoy some light social time before heading off to sniff on my own.
HOW AM I WITH CATS:
Unknown, but if interested FOHA staff will conduct a cat test and send a video to the potential adopter.
HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
Unknown. FOHA can help determine if I’d be a good match for a family with children.
I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:
I’m learning quickly, especially when treats are involved! Lower-value treats work best to help me stay calm and focused.
MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
Not specifically noted, but I keep a tidy space and do well with structure. FOHA can share more details.
THINGS I LIKE:
Treats • Walks • Trail hikes • Exploring the yard • Gentle praise • Riding in the car (with a seatbelt!) • Sniffing and digging
THINGS I DISLIKE:
Waiting too long for a treat!
