Meet Jim Shorts

ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Hi there, I’m Jim Shorts—and no, I’m not a piece of clothing, I’m a real dog with a big heart and a lot of feelings! I’ve had a rough start and can be a little overwhelmed in the shelter environment. I might bark, pace, or spin in my kennel, but please don’t let that scare you away—it’s just my way of saying I’m stressed and could really use a calm, patient human to help me decompress.

Once I’m out and about, you’ll start to see my softer side. I love treats (any kind, really!), and even though I don’t totally understand toys yet, I’m curious and want to learn how to just be a dog. I’m still figuring out what’s safe and what’s scary. Sudden noises and new things can spook me, but I bounce back quickly with some reassurance. I’m not aggressive—I’m just sensitive and need someone who can move slowly and help me build trust.

HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
Still getting to know how I feel around other dogs. If you have another dog at home, FOHA staff will schedule a dog introduction before we make it official.

HOW AM I WITH CATS:
Unknown, but if you’re interested, FOHA staff will conduct a cat test and send you a video.

HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
I’d do best in a  home with humans who understand shy dogs and can give me space to build confidence.

I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:
I know “sit” and am working on learning more! I’m super food motivated, so I’ll be a quick study.

MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
I’m still adjusting to new routines and may need a refresher on house training in a new home. I’m okay with gentle handling but not used to crate time yet.

THINGS I LIKE:
Treats of all kinds, sniffing around, leaning in for gentle pets when I’m comfortable, and having a soft place to curl up and feel safe.

THINGS I DISLIKE:
Loud or unexpected noises, quick movements, and being rushed—please take things slow with me. I’m not a fan of squeaky toys (they’re kinda scary!).
