Meet Dame
ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Hi, I’m Dame! I was found wandering the streets of Mexico when I was just 3 months old. I’m incredibly sweet and calm, with a strong, motherly presence. I love dogs, children, and adults, and I’m very protective of my pack. If there’s tension or a scuffle between dogs, I step right in to stop any aggressive behavior. I bring “trophies” like stones, bills, or birds to my special human as a way to show my affection. I walk well on a leash and, though I’m still getting used to car rides, I warm up quickly and am very adaptable. I am a fence climber so I will have to be supervised in yards! I can be a little skittish at first, but once I feel comfortable, I look to you for support. I love treats, ear scratches, and being outside exploring. I am currently residing in long-term foster care and doing very well. I’ve shown that I thrive in both a home or an apartment/condo environment. I’m low-energy, a true couch snuggler, and quickly become a loving and devoted companion.
HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
I’m good with dogs and play with a puppy-like nature. I do get in the middle of scuffles to keep the peace, so I’m best with dogs who can handle my confident, bossy energy. I might clash with some personalities and need careful introductions.
HOW AM I WITH CATS: I am way too interested in cats and it would be best if I do not live with any.
HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
Good with kids.
I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:
Sit, let’s go, no. I’m still learning, but I respond well to calm guidance — for example, when I jumped on the counter to check out food, I got down right away when asked “off.”
MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
Housetrained.
THINGS I LIKE:
Treats, leash walks (however sometimes I try to walk in the street because of old times, so please keep an eye on me!), exploring outside, kisses and ear scratches once comfortable.
THINGS I DISLIKE:
Sometimes things like elevators and buses can scare me, but I adapt very quickly. Being rushed to join in play, and being unsupervised around fences (I’m a fence climber!). Mud and rain make me uncomfortable, and loud noises sometimes, too.
