🌟 Meet Chester!

🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

Chester is a sweet little guy with a playful side, a serious love of treats, and one very important request for his future family: please take the time to earn his trust.

Once Chester is comfortable with you, you’ll start seeing more of his personality. He LOVES treats, enjoys playing fetch, and can settle nicely when he’s feeling secure. He’s a fun little dog with plenty of potential to become a wonderful companion—but being small does not mean he’s automatically a cuddly, go-anywhere, pick-me-up kind of dog.

Chester needs his boundaries to be respected.

Based on his behavior, it appears Chester may have had experiences in the past where handling happened regardless of whether he was comfortable with it. Today, he can become worried when he feels pressured or loses the ability to move away. If Chester feels that his earlier signals aren’t being heard, he may snap to create create space.

Quick movements can startle him, and he’s particularly uncomfortable having his paws handled. The best way to build a relationship with Chester is to slow down, pay attention to what he’s telling you, and let him set the pace.

That means Chester is looking for an adult only home with people who understand that trust isn’t something they’re automatically entitled to because he’s small. He needs people willing to build that relationship with him.

The payoff? You’ll get to watch a worried little dog realize that his voice matters, and discover the sweet, playful Chester underneath.

🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:

I do well with other dogs!

I arrived with my brother, Charlie, and the two of us have been described as bonded. FOHA is currently assessing their relationship to determine whether we truly need to be adopted together.

We’d certainly be happy to find a home together if the right family comes along, but we may also be able to thrive in separate homes. My friends at FOHA can tell you what they’ve learned about us and help determine the best option.

One thing they’ve already noticed is that Charlie and I can feed off each other’s excitement, and I tend to get more riled up when we’re together than I do on my own.

🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:

My friends at FOHA are still learning how I feel about cats. Ask them whether a cat test may be appropriate for me.

👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:

I need an adult only home with no children.

Because I can be uncomfortable with unexpected handling, quick movements, and situations where I feel pressured, a predictable adult household that can consistently respect my boundaries will be the best environment for me.

🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:

Forget obedience school for a minute, I know FETCH! 🎾

I love treats too, so positive, reward based training should give my future family a great way to work with me while strengthening our relationship.

Leash walking is another story. I currently pull quite a bit and don’t have much in the way of leash skills, so that’s something my adopter should expect to work on with me.

Keeping my harness on can also make handling easier and reduce the amount of physical pressure needed when it’s time to go somewhere.

🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:

I’m not currently housebroken.

I’ve had potty accidents indoors at FOHA, so my future family should expect to start with house training basics rather than assuming I’ll automatically understand the routine.

Patience, consistency, frequent opportunities to go outside, and rewarding successful potty trips will help set me up for success.

💰 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES:

Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet.
