🌟 Meet Charlie!

🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

Charlie is a sweet little guy with a big voice, a lot of feelings, and an enormous appreciation for being cuddled. 💕

If Chester is the brother who needs you to earn his trust before getting physically close, Charlie is much more likely to say, “Actually, could you just pick me up?”

Charlie loves attention and affection. He’s comfortable being picked up, enjoys being held and cuddled, and happily soaks up love from his people. He’s also extremely treat motivated, which is always helpful when you’ve got some learning to do!

And Charlie definitely has some learning to do.

New experiences can make him anxious, and that anxiety sometimes comes out as frantic, excitable energy and plenty of vocalizing. Put him together with his brother Chester and the two can amplify each other’s excitement considerably.

Charlie also arrived without much understanding of leash walking. He may walk slowly, stop frequently, or simply look up at you as though the obvious solution is for you to pick him up and provide transportation. 😂

As tempting as that may be with such a little guy, continuing to help Charlie learn how to confidently navigate the world on his own four feet will be important.

He doesn’t seem to need enormous amounts of physical exercise—a roughly 10-minute loop was enough to tire him out—but he’ll benefit from opportunities to build confidence and learn how to settle when life gets exciting.

🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:

I came to FOHA with my brother, Chester, and we’ve been described as bonded. FOHA is currently assessing our relationship to determine whether we truly need to be adopted together.

We’d certainly love to find the right home together if that’s what’s best for us, but we may also be able to successfully transition into separate homes.

One thing FOHA has noticed is that Chester and I tend to feed off each other’s energy, and my already excitable personality can become much more intense when we’re together.

My friends at FOHA will continue learning about our relationship as well as how I do with other dogs.

🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:

My friends at FOHA are still learning how I feel about cats. Ask them whether a cat test may be appropriate for me.

👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:

Older, respectful kids may be a good fit for me.

I’m a sweet and affectionate little guy, but I can also be anxious and easily overwhelmed by lots of excitement. Kids who are old enough to understand my body language, give me space when I need it, and interact with me calmly would likely be the best match.

My friends at FOHA can help determine whether I’ll be comfortable with the children in your family.

🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:

Right now, one of my biggest projects is simply learning how to walk on a leash!

I don’t seem to have much previous leash experience. I may walk slowly, stop along the way, and occasionally look to my person to pick me up instead.

I’m also VERY treat motivated, which gives us a great starting point for positive training. With patience and practice, I can work on leash skills while also building confidence in unfamiliar environments.

🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:

My housebreaking status is currently unknown.

Since my friends at FOHA don’t have enough information yet to say whether I’m housebroken, my future family should be prepared to help me learn a consistent potty routine while we figure it out together.

💖 THINGS I LIKE:

Being held • Cuddling • Attention • Treats • Being close to people • Getting picked up • Affection • Spending time with my brother • Making sure everyone can hear my opinions

⚠️ THINGS I’M WORKING ON:

Leash walking • Building confidence • Managing my excitement • Learning how to settle • Using my indoor voice • Navigating new environments on my own four feet • Not letting my brother convince me that everything requires MAXIMUM ENERGY

Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet.
