Meet Bonnie 🌟

🐶 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Hi, I’m Bonnie! Before coming to FOHA, I spent most of my life living on the streets of Washington, D.C. with my person, who had been my companion since I was just a puppy. A kind group of federal employees who worked nearby looked out for us, and when my owner made the heartbreaking but loving decision to give me a chance at a better life, they helped me get safely to FOHA.

Despite my past, I’m a smart, energetic, athletic, and deeply loyal girl. I love toys of all kinds, enjoy playing with other dogs, and I learn quickly—especially when high-value treats are involved. I’m housebroken and have done well in a home without needing a crate. After years of sleeping on hard ground, I now really appreciate soft beds and cozy couches, especially if I can snuggle up next to my person.

I can get excited on leash, especially when I see other dogs, but I’m improving with a new harness and patient guidance. I warm up best with slow introductions, and once I feel safe, I settle in comfortably and show my affectionate side. I also love adventures—hiking, exploring, and even splashing around at Shenandoah National Park are some of my favorites!

I’d truly flourish in an active home with people who will give me exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of love. A fenced yard would be amazing, and while I don’t need another dog, a confident canine companion would be a big bonus.

🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
I’m good with other dogs! A doggy friend would be a wonderful bonus but isn’t required.

🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:
Sorry, no kitties for me—I have a high prey drive.

👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
I’d do best in a home without young children. After years on busy streets, unpredictable little humans make me uncomfortable. Older teens or adults would be ideal.

🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:
Sit, come, and I’ve been working on touch and settle!

🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
Housebroken and has done well in the home environment without being crated.

💖 THINGS I LIKE:
Stuffed toys, Nylabones, Kongs, rawhide-free chews, learning new things, car rides, running in the yard, naps, playing with other dogs, hot dog treats, exploring on walks, and active adventures.

🚫 THINGS I DISLIKE:
Thunder (a reminder of life outdoors), rushed or overwhelming introductions, and being hurried with new people.

💰 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES:
Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), diagnostic testing, any additional medical procedures recommended by our vet, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, a slip lead leash, and 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support.
