Meet Big Red
š¾ ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Hi, Iām Big Red ā a gentle, resilient soul with a heart as warm as my name suggests. Life hasnāt been the easiest for me, but youād never know it from how sweet I am. I may be a little shy when we first meet, but give me a cozy space, a patient heart, and some chin scratches, and Iāll slowly start to show you the loving companion I truly am.
Iām currently in a foster home and adjusting beautifully. In just 24 hours, I was already approaching my foster for affection, purring softly, and eating like a champ. I like to spend quiet time under chairs or in covered bedsāsafe spaces are my favorite. I recently had to be shaved due to some mats (not my favorite day), but I was incredibly well-behaved. And hereās a bonusāI absolutely love being brushed!
Despite a few medical challengesāI’m FIV positive, have a heart murmur, and Iām diabeticāI remain one of the sweetest, most mellow cats you’ll meet. I donāt need a lot, just a calm, loving home where I can feel safe, comfortable, and cherished for who I am. FOHA is happy to share more information about my care, and I promise, every bit of love you give will come back tenfold.
š± HOW AM I WITH OTHER CATS:
I previously lived peacefully with another cat and would likely do well with a calm, respectful feline friend.
š¶ HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
Unknown. FOHA doesnāt have information about my experience with dogs, but can provide tips for safe introductions.
š¶ HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
Iād do best in a quiet homeāadults only or with older children who understand I need time and gentleness.
š§¼ MY LITTER BOX HABITS:
Very good, as long as my box is kept cleanāI’m a tidy guy!
š THINGS I LIKE:
Covered beds, soft brushing, chin scratches, gentle voices, cozy hiding spots, and mealtime.
š« THINGS I DISLIKE:
Loud environmentsāIām a sensitive soul who does best with patience and peace.

Big Red's Medical Information
I have FIV, that's what I have but it is NOT who I AM! Please don't let that scare you away. I want you to know that FIV+ cats can and DO live long, healthy, and normal lives when given the chance. In fact, statistically, most FIV cats live as long as their indoor counterparts (13-18 years), and much longer than cats that live outdoors (3-8 years). There are many reported cases where FIV+ cats live well into old age without ever showing any symptoms. It's important to note that dogs, other pets, and humans are absolutely immune to FIV. The virus itself is astonishingly frail and can live outside of the body for only a few seconds. The virus is also extremely slow-acting, so it is unlikely to pose any threat to other cats in the household. I know that adopting an FIV+ cat may seem like a big responsibility, but I promise that I am worth it. I am a sweet and loving kitty who just wants a warm and safe place to call home. If you are willing to give me a chance, I promise to bring you years of joy and companionship. So please come and meet me, and see for yourself that FIV+ cats are just as wonderful and deserving of love as any other cat.
