Meet Amos

🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

Hi, I’m Amos – a sweet, gentle guy with an old soul and a heart full of love. I was found outside by a kind family who feeds a colony of cats. I clearly didn’t belong out there—I kept trying to go inside! Thankfully, a partner rescue stepped in and helped me find my way to FOHA, where I’m now safe and getting the love I’ve been craving.

We believe I was left behind when a neighbor moved away, and I’ve been trying to find my person ever since. I recently had a full dental and had all of my teeth removed—but don’t worry, I’m feeling so much better now! And yes, I can still eat both wet and dry food like a champ.

I’m a shy boy at first and get nervous with quick movements, but if you take things slow, I’ll reward you with gentle headbutts and lots of affection. I may not enjoy being picked up, but I love love, and I’d be happiest in a calm home with a soft lap and someone who sees the beauty in a quiet, older companion just like me.

🐱 HOW AM I WITH OTHER CATS:

Great! I currently share a room with several other cats and get along just fine with my feline roommates.

🐶 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:

My history with dogs is unknown. FOHA can provide tips on gradual introductions if needed.

šŸ‘¶ HOW AM I WITH KIDS:

I’d do best in a quiet home—I’d probably do well with kids who understand to move slowly and gently around me.

🧼 MY LITTER BOX HABITS:

Consistently good! I’m tidy and appreciate a clean box.

šŸ’– THINGS I LIKE:

Headbutts, chin scratches, cozy laps, wet and dry food, soft voices, and slow, gentle attention.

🚫 THINGS I DISLIKE:

Being picked up, fast movements, and loud environments—I’m a soft-hearted guy who needs a peaceful home.

Amos's Medical Information

I have FIV, that's what I have but it is NOT who I AM! Please don't let that scare you away. I want you to know that FIV+ cats can and DO live long, healthy, and normal lives when given the chance. In fact, statistically, most FIV cats live as long as their indoor counterparts (13-18 years), and much longer than cats that live outdoors (3-8 years). There are many reported cases where FIV+ cats live well into old age without ever showing any symptoms. It's important to note that dogs, other pets, and humans are absolutely immune to FIV. The virus itself is astonishingly frail and can live outside of the body for only a few seconds. The virus is also extremely slow-acting, so it is unlikely to pose any threat to other cats in the household. I know that adopting an FIV+ cat may seem like a big responsibility, but I promise that I am worth it. I am a sweet and loving kitty who just wants a warm and safe place to call home. If you are willing to give me a chance, I promise to bring you years of joy and companionship. So please come and meet me, and see for yourself that FIV+ cats are just as wonderful and deserving of love as any other cat.
