We are very excited to announce a new partnership with Positive Dog Solutions, a company–founded by two behavior consultants, Vivian Levén and Jackie Maffucci–that will help us keep our dogs happy, train dogs with difficult behavior issues, and help to match dogs with potential adopters.
Our goal is to create a positive environment for our dogs and work on behavior issues so they get adopted faster and reduce the number of dogs that are returned. Positive Dog Solutions uses science-based techniques to improve dog behavior.
FOHA’s program development will run for six months and consist of three phases:
PHASE 1 – Improve our current operation manual in these areas:
- Safe handling techniques
- Supportive environments for long-term residents
- Matching adopters with dogs
- Post-adoption assistance
- Socialized play groups
PHASE 2 – Staff and key volunteer training on the updated operation manual, including:
- Developing and implementing behavior modification plans for up to ten FOHA residents. (These plans can be used for other dogs with similar behavior needs.)
- Developing a method to track and monitor the success of the behavior modification plan
PHASE 3 – Staff and volunteer training to improve matching dogs to adopters and preventing returns
