Hi, I’m Topanga — but if you’ve been following my journey from San Miguel, you might remember me as Lina!

My story started on the streets of Mexico, where life was tough, especially for a dog like me. I was caught with the help of two kind kids during a TNR project — I was in heat and being followed by a dozen dogs. After I was spayed and healed up, I was set free again… but I didn’t want to go. My best friend Aries and I stayed right by the shelter gate. We didn’t want to go back to that life. Thankfully, the kind humans saw that and let us stay. From that moment on, I’ve been learning what it’s like to be safe and loved.

Fast forward to April 9th — I boarded a plane with a group of fellow adventurers (and one amazing flight angel!) and flew all the way to FOHA in Virginia. Our journey was filled with helping hands — from the rescue team in San Miguel to our pitstop in Mexico City, from the flight angel who watched over us to the amazing volunteers who welcomed us at the airport and at the shelter. I’ve never felt more cared for in my life.

Now that I’m here, I’m showing my silly, playful side. I love squeaky toys, zooming around the room, and curling up with a good chew. I’m super sweet, and even though I’m still figuring out this whole “leash” thing, I’m eager to learn. I just need a little confidence-building and a lot of love (plus smelly treats — I’m a fan). I’ve never shown any aggression — I just want to please and stay close to my people.

I’ve already left behind the uncertainty of street life. Now I’m ready to find a forever home that will keep the love and safety going. Could that be with you?
