Meet Selena

Hi, I’m Selena — but some of you may remember me as Isabella from San Miguel. My journey to FOHA has been long, emotional, and full of love from kind people who believed in me.

I was found in a terrifying place — hiding in a dumpster, doing everything I could to protect my 8 newborn puppies from the attack of giant rats. I was scared, hungry, and exhausted, but I was determined to keep them safe. After we were rescued, I focused on being the best mom I could be. Sadly, one of my babies didn’t survive, but the other 7 grew strong and found loving homes.

Then, it was my turn.

To help me — and 9 other dogs — get to FOHA, an amazing community in Mexico came together and raised the funds we needed in just 24 hours. The day before our flight, we were transported to Mexico City where we got some rest and love from another rescue. Then, bright and early, we boarded a plane with a kind “flight angel” who stayed with us the entire trip. When we landed in Virginia, FOHA staff and volunteers welcomed us with open arms. We got our first real walks, yummy food, vet checks, and cozy beds to curl up in. It was the start of something new — and safe.

Now that I’m here, I’m still learning how to trust. I’m quiet and gentle, and sometimes when people approach, I might step back for a moment — not because I don’t want love, but because I’m still getting used to the idea that people can be kind. But once I know you, I’ll melt into your arms. I love cuddles, soft treats, car rides, and even patio time at restaurants. I get along well with other dogs and children, and I’d be open to meeting cats too.

I’ve come so far — from the streets of San Miguel to a safe haven here in Virginia. All I need now is a forever home that sees me for the survivor I am and gives me the chance to finally be the one who’s cared for.
