🌟 Meet Chilli!

🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

Chilli is a sweet, sensitive girl who is learning that people can be trusted and the world doesn’t have to be so scary. While she may be cautious when first meeting new people or experiencing new situations, underneath that uncertainty is a dog who genuinely craves affection and connection.

Once Chilli begins to feel comfortable, her affectionate side starts to shine. She loves pets and attention, often checking back in with her person during walks for reassurance and affection before heading off to explore again. One volunteer described spending over an hour relaxing with her on the visitor center lawn, where she gradually softened, accepted treats, sought out contact, and even offered a sweet forehead-to-forehead moment.

Chilli enjoys getting outside and exploring, though she can be quite strong on leash when something catches her interest. She is curious about the world around her and gains confidence through positive experiences with patient, understanding people.

Because Chilli can be sensitive to handling and unfamiliar situations, she does best with gentle, low-pressure interactions. She appreciates people who move slowly, allow her to make choices, and give her time to build trust. Watching her confidence grow is incredibly rewarding, and we know that with the right family, Chilli will continue to blossom.

🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:

I can become very excited around other dogs, especially when separated by a fence. Because my arousal level can increase quickly in these situations, FOHA will carefully evaluate any potential dog introductions and discuss my needs with interested adopters.

🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:

Unknown — just ask my friends at FOHA to conduct a cat test.

👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:

Due to my sensitivity and need for slow introductions, I would likely do best with older, dog-savvy children who understand body language and can respect my space.

🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:

I’m still learning! Building confidence and trust are my biggest goals right now.

Still learning my routine in my new environment.

💖 THINGS I LIKE:

Gentle affection, treats, exploring, spending time with trusted people, relaxing in quiet spaces, and taking things at my own pace.

⚠️ THINGS I STRUGGLE WITH:

New people, certain handling situations, and high-arousal encounters with other dogs can be overwhelming for me. I do best with patient handlers who move slowly, use positive reinforcement, and help me feel safe.

Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet.
