They call me Leo because I have the inner strength of a lion. I was found along I-81 in Shenandoah County and my back leg was broken in three places!
My rescuers tried to save my leg but the fix may have left me unable to ever run or jump again. I’m only two years old and I looove playing so the good folks at FOHA decided to amputate that leg.
I am now a happy tripod!! I chase wand toys, enjoy batting toys around, and can even climb a cat tree so I can watch the birds outside the shelter. I’m also quite a talker.
Leo's Medical Information
June 2022 Update: Leo's prior orthopedic surgery to save his leg did not have a good long term outcome. Our vets advised that if we chose to do another orthopedic surgery, he would never be able to run and jump again. Leo is young, active, and loves to play so FOHA made a quality of life decision for him and had his leg amputated. Leo is now a very happy tripod and has completely recovered from his surgery. He still does all the things he did before but now he can do them pain free! Three days post surgery, Leo wanted to chase his wand toy in his medical foster home. There was evidence each morning in his room that he had played quite a bit the night before. Within the first 30 minutes of returning to the shelter, he was batting toys around and he jumped up on a cat tree so he could watch the birds outside. He's loving his pain free life!
