Status: Up for Adoption

Breed: German Shepherd

Gender: Female

Weight: 59

Age: 7 years and 9 months

My name is Bella and everyone tells me I'm an exceptionally beautiful and intelligent girl.

I was purchased, along with my canine brother, from a breeder when we were only a few months old. Courage and confidence allowed my canine brother to adapt in a home with 9! human brothers and sisters. As for me, I became very fearful, shy, and nervous, making it impossible for me to trust. The high energy, unpredictable environment, overwhelmed me from the very beginning.

I became very confused about expectations of me. Since I loved my human brothers and sisters, I did exactly what I thought was expected of me. I protected them from all the things that were fearful to me, especially strangers. At times, I thought my job was to protect everyone from my canine brother, so I attempted to keep him on an even keel. For these reasons, I was crated almost all day, everyday.

My hope is to one day find courage, confidence and trust that will last forever. Once in a while, my trust rises above my fear and that's when I'm the happiest. That's when I'm able to joyously chase tennis balls, romp and play, and walk beautifully by your side on leash. Sadly, a loud noise, sudden movement, or the presence of people unfamiliar causes my trust to vanish, yet again.

If given the chance to live in a quiet home with loving and patient adults, allowed to have adequate exercise, and feel safe from harm, I believe with all my heart that my courage, confidence, and trust will be visible forever. Do you have the love and patience I so desperately need in my life? In return for such kindness, I would offer you my heart of love.

This dog can only be adopted within the Washington D.C. metro area.
