Rosie

Rosie

Status: Up for Adoption

Breed: Feist

Gender: Female

Weight: 35

Age: 1 year

Rosie is spayed and is house trained.  Her owner surrendered her to a kill shelter in Wythe County, VA. which is a rural county with a low population.  She was not exposed to many things common in suburban life, but is doing well with her training. At one point in her paperwork, she is referred to as a feist dog.  This breed of dog has been around for centuries in this country, with George Washington writing about one and William Faulkner writing about them in his novels.  Even Teddy Roosevelt hunted with one.  They are terrier hunting dogs used primarily for squirrel hunting.  Rose fits the description of a mountain feist perfectly.  Her body is all muscle with an Arnold Schwarzenegger neck.  She is about 35 pounds and probably won’t get much larger.  Her athleticism is outstanding; if you want an agility dog, she would do very well in this sport.

Rose is a sweet, incredibly intelligent young lady with a magnificent terrier personality.  She is very trainable and wants to please. That said, this poor girl has been through more than we know in her short life and needs a forever home full of love and understanding. She needs someone who will work slowly to.create trust. She still has some anxiety issues so an experienced owner would be best. Positive training with praise and treats has worked well with her.

Rosie would do best with older children. She will respond to the right family with affection and her quirky, funny and sweet personality.

This dog can only be adopted within the Washington D.C. metro area.
