FRIENDS OF HOMELESS ANIMALS   Our Mission - Friends strives to: Bring an end to the unnecessary killing of companion animals Provide a safe haven for abused and abandoned animals Provide food, shelter, medical care, rehabilitation, and compassion to homeless animals Find permanent, loving homes for the animals in our care And most importantly, bring about a time when there will be no more homeless pets and every dog and cat can be guaranteed a loving home To learn more about adopting one of our dogs or cats, please review our adoption guidelines and then call 703-385-0224   For general information about the shelter, email foha_info@foha.org   Adoption donation fees: Dogs $250 | Cats $100 | Kittens $150   Breaking News   Unfortunately, our Petsmart event has been canceled, but we hope to reschedule soon.      Please Help Spock     Dear, sweet Spock is one of the dogs that Friends rescued from a hoarding situation in NC.  After years of living in filth and drinking green water, we had hoped to give Spock a second chance to be a loved and cherished member of  a wonderful family.  Unfortunately, it was discovered soon after Spock's rescue that he not only had heartworms, but he also had a mass in one of his lungs.  Our vet feels that surgery to remove the mass is Spock's best chance, so we plan to schedule the operation soon.   The problem we now face is finding Spock a foster home.  It wouldn't be fair for Spock to undergo that procedure, and then have to stay in a run at our shelter.  This boy has been through so much, and he needs to be in a quiet home with people to keep an eye on him while he recovers.  Spock does great with other dogs, and would probably be fne with kids, but would prefer to have someone with him for most of the day.  Someone who is retired or works from home would be ideal.   Spock is a big boy, but he is a gentle soul who loves people and is very eager to please.  If you can help this sweet dog, please contact our foster coordinator as soon as possible.  Spock is currently in a short-term foste home, but he will be returned to our shelter this coming weekend if another home isn't found by then.   For more information about fostering Spock, please call 703-648-9409 or fosteradog@foha.org       Donations and Website News   We apologize for any inconveniene, but our donations page is temporarily down.   Additionally, some functionality, such as sponsorships, is unavailable.  Our website is being transitioned to a new host.  We plan to have a whole new look soon!  We appreciate your patience during our transition.  Please keep checking back, and please continue to support our mission.  From all the cats, dogs, staff, and volunteers of Friends... thank you!   Please mail checks to:   Friends of Homeless Animals P.O. Box 2575 Merrifield, VA 22116-2575      NC Dog and Cat Rescue   On June 11, Friends participated in the rescue of dogs and cats from a hoarding situation in North Carolina. Our amazing volunteer, Ren, along with a HART volunteer, drove all the way to NC and braved the fleas, filth, and stench to save 15 dogs and 3 cats. Upon arival in VA, volunteers were on standby to help care for the animals and transport them to Friends, HART, and A Forever Home. Bricks will be a traditional red clay color and are 4 x 8 inches in size. Friends supporters can personalize a brick to memorialize or honor a special dog or cat, family member or friend.
